Brigham City LDS Temple "Blessed"

We were told the story of a sweet elderly lady who, during the open house of this temple, was silently crying in the Celestial room. Someone noticed her asked if she was OK.   She explained, "I never thought, we would have a temple here. I am so grateful."
As Kendall painted this painting he thought of the elderly lady and painted "gratitude" for the blessings of having the temple.  He painted the beautiful sweet peach colors and feelings onto the temple, in the sky, and around the temple, that are symbolic to the people there. He named this painting "Blessed"

A beautiful temple of the Lord has been placed in our midst. We are blessed.
"Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound. They shall walk,
O Lord, in the light of thy countenance." Psalms 89:15

Can you feel what he painted?  Yolanda

Portland Temple "Eternal Peace"

"It took about a year and a half to paint this one, and while I painted it I studied the topic of Eternal Peace. I tried to paint the peace that the commitment we make in the temple brings into the painting. The warmth, the joy, the gladness.  I wish everybody could share that peace." Kendall Davenport

Los Angeles Temple "A More Excellent Hope"

(both panoramic painting and a standard sized painting)

One summer evening we went to the Los Angeles Temple to get references with which Kendall painted this painting. This temple is on a hill with a large front lawn.   It is located near some  busy streets with many commercial businesses.  There was a  great contrast of quiet stillness as we entered the temple grounds. We walked up near the front of the temple.  It was a surprise to see the large rectangular pool with flowers all around it.  When the lights came on, illuminating the temple, tall palm trees, and pool, it gave the feelings of importance, harmony, and peace.  It was amazing to see how beautiful it was.  It is very difficult to get a good view of this side of the temple.  Kendall spent a long time getting references up close and memorizing the feelings there. As Kendall painted this painting he worked to get the whole view of it as if you were walking close to the pool.  In order to capture each part of it he painted everywhere he was looking.
The contrast of the world and the Lord's Kingdom here on earth helps us know there is "A More Excellent Hope",  Kendall's name for this painting.  Yolanda Davenport
